R&D and innovation – the role of industry and university partnerships

13:45 - 14:45

With numerous scientific and research institutions across the Middle East focused on delivering technical efficiencies and innovations, this session explores how universities can support the industry in developing R&D projects that are linked to business needs. We draw upon examples of collaboration for R&D for the augmentation of injection techniques to improve EOR, such as the development of research in “Digital Rock Physics” and the Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) laboratory at the Petroleum Institute Research Center (PIRC), collaboration between Total, ADNOC, MASDAR and the PI. In a world where technology increases efficiency, we draw upon how industry and education can partner to create technologies in challenging production environments. As R&D investments take concepts from laboratory to the field, we also discuss:
– The role R&D plays in innovation
– How start-ups and supply chain can support innovation
– How consortia amongst industry can support R&D
– The role of industry in pilot projects
– How institutions can gain funding from industry
– The importance of linking research to business needs
– International experience as a tool innovating
